Where the tool lives
Repository (MIT): github.com/CloudAxisAi/ai-token-counter
GitHub Pages: cloudaxisai.github.io/ai-token-counter — open the page, paste text, nothing is uploaded.
On cloudybot.ai: /tools/ai-token-counter — same client-side tool with CloudyBot nav, FAQs, and links to the monthly calculator.
The page is intentionally boring engineering: no CDN scripts in the tool itself, debounced recomputation for large pastes, an optional "reply size" model that never double-counts, and citations to each vendor's HTTPS pricing page. It is not tiktoken — vendors bill their real tokenizers.
Heuristic vs production
Word-split heuristics skew on code, JSON, and many non-Latin scripts. That is fine as long as the UI says so loudly. When your finance team needs invoice-grade numbers, use the provider's tokenizer or billing export — not a bookmarklet.
Pair with the monthly calculator
For "what does this feel like across a month?" use AI cost calculator (2026) and the live tool at cloudybot.ai/tools/ai-cost-calculator. Token counter answers "how big is this blob"; the calculator answers "how big is my habit" against published plan caps on pricing.
